National and International Regattas
The Annapolis Yacht Club has been proud to host some of the most prestigious events in yacht racing. The acquisition and development of the Sailing Center resulted in a step change in racing activity. It allowed us to successfully bid on the 2000 Star World Championship. The success of that regatta and the growth of our one-design racing program resulted in the reputation of AYC as a premiere host for major championships. By 2001 the regatta schedule had grown to 14 events and had attracted Sailing World’s NOOD regatta, now the largest NOOD Regatta in the country with about 260 boats competing each year, and the Rolex International Women’s Keelboat Championship
In 2009, the Chesapeake Bay YRA’s Board awarded the Clyde Winters Award for Race Committee of the Year to the Annapolis Yacht Club for the 9th time. This time for its hosting of the 2008 USODA Optimist Team Trials. The Club now hosts one or two major championships each year in addition to the NOOD and the Bay events held annually. AYC has 2 ISAF certified International Race Officers, 7 US SAILING certified National Race Officers, 3 certified Regional Race Officers and 6 certified Club Race Officers. In addition it has an outstanding group of 90 dedicated race committee volunteers. The Club has 5 ISAF certified International Judges and 11 US SAILING certified judges.
