"Frostbite Race Today"

Winter Activities

The Cruising Fleet continues to meet and travel year round for off the water gatherings.  These purely social events are described as "Cruise Corners," "Land Cruises," or "Cabin Fever Cruises."

Cruise Corners at the Club

During the cold months when the boats are put to rest for a while, we gather for a "Cruise Corner" on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month for either the AYC Happy Hour on the Second Deck or a buffet dinner in the Skipjack.  When we join the AYC Happy Hour on the 2nd Deck, members are encouraged to make dinner plans on an individual basis.  Check the monthly club calendar or the Cruising Fleet schedule for the next Cruise Corner date and location.

Land Cruises

Land Cruises are also conducted each winter.  These are day long, or occasionally overnight, trips to local attractions.  2007 was bracketed with a February day-trip to the Washington Navy Yard Museum and an early December four day trip to Williamsburg for the Grand Illumination.  Other venues have included Longwood Gardens north of Wilmington, DE, the Newport News Maritime Museum, Richmond, VA, etc.  We rang in the 2009 season with a January trip to Berlin, MD, over the long Martin Luther King weekend.  February 2010 featured a tour of the newly renovated Naval Academy Museum.
