General Manager’s Message
Racing, Cruising, and Socializing – It Must Be Summer at AYC
by Stephen R. Creese, General Manager
Weaving Tradition and Innovation in the Good Old Summertime
During the summer months at AYC, our members look forward to our Father’s Day brunch, our birthday celebration, the Fourth of July, and the New Member Reception. And, speaking of fine traditions, our classic Sunday brunch resumes on June 7 with mini crab cakes, peel and eat shrimp, and prime rib returning to the buffet. Our classic brunch will be served on the first Sunday of each month through September and then every Sunday beginning in October. On the other Sundays through the summer months, select from our a la carte brunch menu on the second deck.
This year, we’re adding a few extras to mix it up a bit. On June 12, we will have a grand opening of our Junior Fleet facility. Lester Trott – a 70(!) year member of AYC – will be on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Then, whether you enjoy British humor or would like to get a great introduction to it, we present Jimmy Keys with his unique brand of comedy, music and visual impressions. See Prince Charles, Elton John, Willie Nelson, Tom Jones and others as you have never seen them before.
The Cruising Fleet is busy cruising to West River, Knapp’s Narrows, Cambridge, Baltimore (twice), St. Michael’s, Rock Hall and beyond this summer. They’ll take an evening out of this busy cruising schedule to once again host a Yacht Club Invitational where members of neighboring yacht clubs will join AYC Cruising Fleet members for an evening of dining and fun in the Skipjack.
Our racing season is off to an incredible start with a tremendously successful J/24 Worlds now behind us and the Annapolis to Newport ocean race just about to start. Bobby Frey and the Special Events Race Committee are well into the Wednesday Night Race series. Be sure to come out to the clubhouse to see the exciting finish to these races and watch the recaps each week on our website.
Mr. Billy Celebrates 45 Years of Service to the Annapolis Yacht Club
Talk about commitment! Mr. Billy Glenn was recognized with a celebration to thank him for his dedication and service to the membership. His surprise was evident when members of his family arrived to join in the festivities. I am proud that we have so many long term associates and Mr. Billy’s accomplishment is off the charts.
Maciej Rynkiewicz Named Associate of the Month
Our May Associate of the Month is Maciej Rynkiewicz who works in the yard. Maciej’s hard work and pleasant demeanor have paid off as he enjoys being recognized as associate of the month for the second time. Thank you, Maciej, and congratulations. You are a role model for our staff.
As always, we are interested in your ideas and comments. Please fill in a comment card, drop us an e-mail, give us a call or, better yet, stop by and say hello. Nadine and I, along with the entire staff, appreciate your support in our continued efforts to maintain our status as one of the premiere yacht clubs in the country and to continue to improve our service to you.
