AYC Match Race Teams Compete in NYYC Morgan Cup Regatta

This photo gallery captures AYC's participation in the Morgan Cup Team Racing Regatta held at the New York Yacht Club, in Newport, RI on August 13-15. Coach Jay Kehoe took a 3 boat team of 10 AYC sailors to Newport to compete against 7 other teams: NYYC Team #1, NYYC Team #2, Seawhanaka Corinthian YC, Pequot YC, Newport Harbor YC, Southern YC, and Larchmonth YC.
AYC Team members were: John Torgerson, Kate Torgerson, Myles Conway, Pete McChesney, Shane Zwingelberg, Scott Snyder, Matt Shubert, Lori Shubert, Brad Julian and Alexis Rubin. The team had a number of close matches during the regatta which culminated in their beating the NYYC #1 team late in the series as they continued to improve their knowledge of the Sonar Class boat and teamwork.
On hand to support the AYC Team were Joe and Terry Conway, Tom and Mary Coan, Jeff and Sandy Wagner. On Saturday, Commodore Bill Torgerson and wife, Maureen, joined the Team at the regatta dinner and later hosted the Team on their boat, Dragon, which was moored off the NYYC Clubhouse.
"Our team improved dramatically throughout the weekend," reports Coach, Jay Kehoe, "and hopefully, the sport of team racing will catch on in Annapolis as it has with a number of other prestigious clubs."
