New AYC Member "Strikes Silver"

On Tuesday, April 12, Wayne Jackson was officially invited to join Annapolis Yacht Club. On Sunday, April 17, Wayne placed in his first regatta as a member and representative of AYC. Talk about “coming out of the blocks fast!!!” Wayne is no stranger to sailing and has owned several sailboats but just this past February took delivery of a brand new J/111, J/Boats newest design. With a little coaxing, Wayne decided to take a yet unsailed and new boat to Sperry Topsider Charleston Race Week in beautiful Charleston SC. Talk about jumping into the frying pan! Well, as a brand new AYC member and the owner of a brand new boat, Wayne and crew did all proud by coming away with w solid 2nd place finish in the very competitive PHRF B division. With scores of 3,4,4,2,2 Wayne’s new J/111 Velocity scored a big hit with all involved.

Charleston Race Week is quickly becoming one of the premier regattas on the East coast with almost 300 boats attending. Wayne’s team was joined by AYC members Will Keyworth as tactician and Larry Leonard as primary jib and spin trimmer. AYC’s Fleet Captain, Jonathan Bartlett, served as tactician on the 3rd place finisher in the PHRF  B division onboard Robin Team’s J/122 Teamwork. Congratulations to Wayne and the entire Velocity sailing team.
