The first running of the Annapolis YC 3-2-1 Chesapeake Challenge started with light winds on Saturday but finished on Sunday with postcard weather conditions and a lot of happy competitors. The official debut of this exciting new racing format combines 3v3 team racing, 2v2 team racing, and 1v1 match racing all in one event to create the 3-2-1 format. This is truly an event unlike any other in the country that tests the adaptability of the sailors to adjust to different racing formats, roles on the boat, and even types of boats within the same regatta. Thanks to members Ron Anderson and Bob Rutsch for loaning their J/30s for the match race competition. 43 races were completed among the eight teams in attendance, with the College of Charleston Yacht Club claiming the title. Racing was close all weekend and the competitors provided great comments on the unique format. Thanks to all the volunteers and staff who made the event possible and be on the lookout for the Annapolis YC 3-2-1 Invitational which takes place September 13-15, as clubs from across the country descend on Annapolis to take part in the 3-2-1 experience!
