Memorial Day Weekend Racing
Linda Ambrose, Regatta Manager
We can’t remember the
last time we had such beautiful weather for on-the-water activities, and many
members took advantage of the weekend to race across AND down the Bay!
The Annapolis to Miles River Race took place on Saturday with an upwind first
leg and a close reach for the second, as boats sailed from Annapolis to St.
Michaels with a post-race celebration and awards ceremony at Miles River Yacht
Club.
Congratulations to 2nd place class finishers Ron
Anderson and his crew on his J/30 Insatiable, and Bruce Artman’s J/35 T-Bone. First through third in the J/105 class went to AYC members, with John
White/USA 113 at the top of the podium, followed by David Scheidt/Smoke and
Oakum and Jon Slabaugh/Firebrand. PHRF A2 had Craig and Dotty Saunder’s
Monkey Dust on top, followed by Bruce Gardner’s L’Outrage. Following a
spectacular class and overall win at the Spring Race to Oxford on May 11, Jim
Connelly’s J/111 Slush Fund took 1st place in PHRF A0/A1. In CRCA-ORR Performance Cruiser, Peter Henry’s Mischief took class
honors.

Heading south from Annapolis on Friday morning, the 70th
Down the Bay Race could be looked at as a jump start to next week’s Annapolis
to Newport Race, as 10 A2N competitors also sailed the 120NM course from
Annapolis to Hampton, Virginia. Congratulations to member Bob Fox on SLY
who was first over the line in ORC, correcting to 2nd place.
