Member Success in Viper 640s, J/111s, and Penguins
Linda Ambrose, Regatta Manager
It’s gratifying to see how many different classes our members and their spouses compete in throughout the year, both locally and at national and worldwide venues. Most recently, members covered the west coast, the Eastern Shore, and the Midwest with three regattas wrapping up over the weekend.
On the “left coast,” congratulations to Geoff Ewenson on Evil Hiss with a stellar performance in the 2019 Viper 640 World Championship hosted by Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. Competing against 40 other entries from the USA, Canada, and South Africa, Ewenson wrapped up the Worlds in 2nd place with a string of top 5 finishes. 2019 Viper 640 Worlds Results
Chicago Yacht Club played host to the J/111 World Championship with two members in the top 10 at the end of the event. Congratulations to Marty Roesch’s team on Velocity who were just five points out of first place at the completion of eight races. In addition to Roesch at the helm, Allan Terhune, Jr., called tactics with Andrew Eyring trimming headsails and Cam Bowdren on the bow. AYC is looking forward to hosting the J/111s at their North Americans in the fall of 2020. 2019 J/111 Worlds Results
Closer to home, competing in the William H. Myers Heritage Regatta – Penguin International Championship hosted by Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford, congratulations to Chris Conway and his daughter Campbell for their 2nd place finish on C-Biscuit. 2019 Penguin International Championship
