AYC Members Continue Successful Runs in Florida
Linda Ambrose, Regatta Manager
While most of us
enjoyed a couple of chilly Frostbite races yesterday, other members were
enjoying big breeze and sunshine in a multitude of one design
racing. In the Etchells Class, Jose Fuentes on Caramba, competing in the
2018/2019 Biscayne Bay Regatta Series, came in 2nd in the Florida
State Championship over the weekend in a 46 boat strong fleet. The entry
list for this event was a veritable “who’s who” of both professional and
amateur sailors, including America’s Cup team members and the 2018 J/70 World
Champion. Read more from Scuttlebutt Sailing News.
The Star Class held its final event of the 2018-2019 Winter
Series, which attracted 42 competitors in the Walker Cup. Congratulations
to John von Schwarz crewing on the 10th overall winning boat. Read more from Scuttlebutt Sailing News.
The J/70 Class
wrapped up its winter series at Davis Island Yacht Club. Winning the 3rd
and final event of the series was Savasana, with long time crew member Ron Weed on
board, which gives the team the overall series win for the 2018-2019
series. Congratulations to Peter Bowe on Tea Dance Snake, who finished in
4th place in the final series event in the Corinthian Class, which
was 21 boats strong. Quite a few members will be sailing at the Helly Hansen NOOD Regatta in St. Petersburg, Florida, this coming weekend. Best of luck to all NOOD competitors.
