AYC Race Officials Symposium Announced

Linda Ambrose, Regatta Manager

Annapolis Yacht Club invites race officers, judges, and umpires to come to Annapolis on February 23-24, 2019, for a 2-day Race Officials Symposium dedicated to developing and improving race officiating in sailboat racing. This new event will address current practices (both RC and PC) and hopefully spark conversations that will help all clubs and organizations continue to grow our sport.

Our legacy includes some of our sport's best race officials, including legends like Gaither Scott, Ron Ward, and Chip Thayer. They constantly strove to pass along their passion for sailboat racing and running excellent regattas. We want not only to focus on the basics-- equipment management, signaling, setting start and finish lines, setting marks, protest committees, weather, and most importantly, safety, but also youth events, communication, and regatta management. We anticipate competitors, coaches, and vendors will attend as we continue the trend of open communication and collaboration within our sport.

This is not a standardized course, there are lots of those throughout the country. Rather, we are inviting speakers to come present unique short sessions on a diverse set of race officiating - targeting the novice to the expert and all officiating disciplines.
