January 1 greeted
sailors and the Race Committee with a warm and windy welcome to the New
Year. Balmy (for January in the Mid-Atlantic) temps in the low to mid 50s
made for a very comfortable boat prep for sailors before attending the 12:15
skippers meeting at the Clubhouse. 42 teams were on the line in separate one
design and handicapped classes, and only one OCS was recorded at the start as
boats sailed between a mark tied to a mooring ball in the harbor and the signal
boat. The initial forecast of 10-15kts had increased overnight, with
competitors waking up to small craft warnings and gusts over 20kts, so it was
quite sporty on the starting line! PRO Bobby Frey sent the sailors
through the mooring field and out in to the Severn River before returning to
cross the finish line between the Clubhouse and Annapolis City Marina.
large crowd turned out at the Club for the annual post-Hangover Bowl pizza
party and greatly appreciated the staff helping them to kick off AYC’s 2019
race program. Awards for Hangover Bowl will be handed out at the
Awards Party and Trophy Presentation for the 2018-2019 Frostbite Series on
Sunday, March 24. Hangover Bowl results are posted and photos are available online, courtesy of Wilbur Keyworth.
