With a spectacular array of vintage and modern versions of this classic yacht, the 12 Metre Worlds wrapped up in Newport this weekend, with long time junior program participant Porter Kavle on board contributing to the strategy team. In addition to success on the race course, Porter was widely regarded as a “Corinthian” sailor at the Club amongst his peers and coaches, winning the Bill Bennett Memorial Leadership Awards in both 2010 and 2011 as well as top Corinthian awards in the junior division of CBYRA. Since starting college, Kavle has enjoyed sailing in keelboat regattas during his summer breaks, including a hard fought win on the modern class entry in the 12 Metre Worlds, Challenge 12, who went in to the last day in a battle for 1st place that included 3rd place finisher (tied for 2nd) Courageous with Gary Jobson calling tactics and John von Schwarz in the pit.
