Year-Round Race Teams

Boats We Sail

Optimist

The AYC Optimist program is designed to provide a continuum of training to allow participants to develop through our Learn-To-Sail (LTS) program, including the Creek Critter and Sea Squirt courses for ages 5-8, and the Beginner and Intermediate Optimist courses for those seeking to progress their skills in the Optimist class. From there, our Optimist program moves sailors up towards the learn-to-race Green Fleet, where first year racers learn the skills necessary to participate on a race course and begin competition at local regattas and events.

Finally, young sailors develop their skills necessary to become athletes on the Red, White, and Blue (RWB) Racing Team. With both local and travel events at this level, athletes see progression towards levels attained only by the best athletes in the sport. Along the way, the program is designed to promote sportsmanship and fair sailing, ensuring that sailors are enjoying their time on the water and challenging each sailor to progress as far as their drive and ability can take them.

AYC Halloween Howl and Orange Bowl are open for Green Fleet too!

C420s

The Club 420 is a two person dinghy which forms the base of many local, high school and collegiate programs in North America. Simple for beginning sailors and yet challenging enough for collegiate champions. The Club 420 offers more learning opportunities than any other double-handed boat. Over 5,000 Club 420s are sailed in youth, high school and collegiate programs all over the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. - C420 Association

AYC owns twenty four C420s  and three charter boats. Our charter fleet can be contracted for full summer or single event use. All learn to sail and local race teams are provided a boat but the travel teams are required to charter or bring their own.

The five High School Teams that AYC hosts during the spring and fall seasons also use the club owned fleet.

Lasers

Our Laser Race team is a BYOB ( bring your own boat) program for every level.

J22s

AYC owns eight J22s that are made available to the Junior Program during the summer for their Keelboat Learn to Race and adventure programs.
J/22 is the choice of one-design fleets and institutional sailing programs worldwide, because she has proven to be a great value and a favorite among juniors and adults alike. - Jboats
