AIRC Adds Three Great Events to Calendar
Linda Ambrose, Regatta Manager
The Adult Interclub Race Committee is committed to
continuing education and outreach to members who are interested in learning
more about team, match, and fleet racing. The Committee has put together a
great line-up of informative events this spring, to not only introduce members
to what the AIRC is all about, but also to update racers on team, match, and
fleet racing rules and how they apply to the different disciplines of yacht
racing. All events will be held in the Clubhouse in the Skipjack. A cash bar will be available.
First up is our annual Meet
& Greet AND Intro to Team and Match Racing! Wednesday, March 6, 6:30 pm.
Have
you been wondering how to amp up your racing? Come join us! This evening will
be part social, and part educational, and a great way to meet fellow members who
love intense racing. Member Cole Allsopp will give an overview of basic team and match racing
strategies. For more information, click here: Meet & Greet Registration.
Next is
an Advanced Team Racing/Match Racing Rules Clinic, Wednesday, March 13, 6:30 pm.
This
event is open to all area sailors in addition to AYC members, as some of our top
competition is within our neighbor clubs who join us for scrimmages and team
race practice.
Know just
enough about team racing to want to learn more? Come challenge your
brain, with a frosty beverage in hand, to learn more complex team racing
concepts and moves, with International Umpire and Annapolitan Jeff
Borland. Jeff’s great at dissecting the rules so that you can understand
what moves are legal, and how to get your team into a winning
combination. Registration is available online for AYC members by
clicking here: Team and Match Racing Rules Clinic. Or, if you have friends who would benefit from
the clinic, have them RSVP by calling the Front Desk: 410-263-9279. Cash bar and Lite Fare menu available.
And to get everyone ready for
Wednesday Night Racing, the last event on the current schedule is a Fleet Racing Rules Workshop, Wednesday, April 10, 6:30 pm.
Are you
a weekend warrior or Wednesday night racer? Do you or your crew want some
clarification on starting line rules or Rule 18 (at the marks)? We guarantee
that you’ll use some of this knowledge on the race course this
season! Organized by our Race and Protest Committees, and taught by
International Judge Sandy Grosvenor, AYC’s Race Chair, and National Judge Ric
Crabbe, AYC’s Protest Chair. Please RSVP by visiting this link: Fleet Racing Rules Seminar.
AYC members can join
the Interclub Racing Program, which includes practices held on AYC’s J/22 fleet,
coaching, scrimmages, continuing education, and the possibility of representing
the Club at regattas both in the US and abroad. To learn more, visit the Adult Interclub Race Program web page.
