Annapolis Yacht Club’s Optimist Championship Race Team
The Annapolis Yacht Club’s Optimist Championship Race Team will seek to train and compete on a national level and develop sailors for life! Self-motivated sailors will learn the most advanced Opti techniques in addition to self-reliance, seamanship and care of equipment, strategy and tactics. Coaches will work with sailors to achieve their goals and maximize their potential; training for and competing in major competitions. Sailors are expected to be good teammates, role models, and uphold the Corinthian tradition of Annapolis Yacht Club.
Fall Season Program Fees:
AYC Member $2,000 or AYC JAM Member $2,500 for the season, which includes coaching, facilities, coach boat fuel, etc. through November 12th.
*Out-of-State regattas carry an additional regatta + transportation fee for each event.

Practices will be held at AYC every weekend there is not a regatta:
Friday: 3:30pm (Rigged & Ready) - 7pm (Pickup)
Saturday + Sunday: 9am (Report Time) - 4pm (Pickup)
Fall Season Runs Friday, September 8th - Sunday, November 12th, 2023
Spring Season Runs March 22nd - April 23rd, 2024

Sailors will be split into Gold and Silver Championship fleets at the Head Coach and Director’s discretion at the beginning of each new season. Gold and Silver fleets will work together the majority of the time on the water and in the classroom but split according to these skill groups for small group work. Any questions? ANNAPOLIS YACHT CLUB’S FALL GREEN FLEET RACE TEAM:
Fall Green Fleet sailing is here to continue sailors' progress in this amazing sport, teaching the fundamentals of how to sail fast and race, teamwork and a love of sailing! Sailors will learn racing technique, begin to take ownership of their equipment, knots, rigging, safety, basic rules and how to get around a racecourse! Curriculum will provide a pathway and foundation for sailors to progress to Championship fleet and beyond! Team will compete in 2-3 local regattas throughout the Fall.
Practice will be held at AYC every weekend there is not a regatta:
Thursdays 4pm (Rigged & Ready) - 7pm (Pickup)
Saturday + Sunday 10:30am (Report Time) - 3:30pm (Pickup)

AYC Summer 2023 Green or Lime Fleeters may be accepted based on your coach’s recommendation, at the discretion of the Head Opti Coach and the Director of Junior Sailing. Applicants from outside the program please fill out the Fall Season Application and send to [email protected] to give us an idea of your goals and experience! No refunds will be given after the first full weekend of practice. Sailors are required to have their own sailboat.
