AYC Junior Program Expands 420 Fleet

Brianna Grenier, Junior Fleet Director

The AYC Junior Program took delivery of their 24 new 420’s just in time for High School Sailing! The expanded fleet allows AYC to be considered for major events that have not been hosted here before. With tryouts beginning this week, volunteers from the five hosted teams quickly rigged half the fleet and are excited to kick off the fall programs. Indian Creek and Key School will have tryouts Tuesday and Wednesday this week, followed by St. Mary’s, Severna Park, and Annapolis High School Thursday and Friday.

The old 18-boat fleet was sold to Baltimore County Sailing Center and will serve as the stepping stone needed to expand their program to a two-fleet venue, having purchased 18 FJ’s a few years ago. We are excited to have another great racing venue added to our high school circuit!

Special thank you to the dockmasters for assisting with the unloading process. Stay tuned for the Blessing of the Fleet announcement!
